LOVE AND BE LOVED

UNDAILY Episode 123

“As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you. Now remain in my love. If you keep my commands, you will remain in my love, just as I have kept my Father’s commands and remain in his love. I have told you this so that my joy may be in you and that your joy may be complete.

JOHN 15, 9-11 (NIV)

In the fifteenth chapter of the Gospel according to Saint John, Jesus succinctly explains the meaning of the parable of the vine. He says, "As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you. Abide in my love." In these words, we see that love is not merely an emotion, but rather an enduring and active state of sanctified love towards God and man. We often think of love in terms of a fleeting feeling, a variable state of brain chemistry that comes and goes. Sometimes we fear this chemical or… toxic love because it harms us. We also find instances where the feeling of love is exploited to manipulate others for personal gain. Such attitudes deny the essence of true love.
